The Bear rank is for third grade boys (or boys who will be 9 years of age during the Scouting year) .\n\nThere are 24 Bear achievements in four categories. The Cub Scout must complete 12 of these to earn the Bear badge. These requirements are somewhat more difficult and challenging than those for Wolf rank.

\nCub Scouts are organized into small units called dens, which in our pack are groups of same-age boys.\n\nDens are supervised by volunteer den leaders, men and women who help the boys pursue age-appropriate activities.\n\nThe den is where many young boys first learn about the requirements of leadership and the give-and-take associated with teamwork.\n\nOnce a month, several dens meet for a pack meeting-a highlight for the Cub Scout's entire family. Parents see their boys interact with their friends, meet other parents from surrounding areas, and share in their sons' successes and achievements.\nTigers\nWolves\nBears\nWebelos I\nWebelos II .\n

There are many programs available to parents if they want to become leaders or when they volunteer for positions in which they work directly with Cub Scouts.\n\nThe Pacific Skyline Council web site has a complete and up-to-date list of all the http://www.pacsky.org/training/training.html that are available.\n\nHere are some of the more important training programs that every leader and volunteer should take (and leaders are required to take):\n\n!Youth Protection Training\n\nYouth Protection Training is required for all adult leaders working with youth.\n\nYouth Protection Training is now available online right on the web so you can take the training at your convenience at home or at work. All Pack 83 parents are strongly encouraged to take the online course. \n\nYouth Protection Training will continue to be offered "In Person", however the sessions are held quarterly only. If you do want to take the in-person training, please ee the Pacific Skyline Council calendar for training dates and locations.\n\n!Fast Start Training\n\nFast Start training is the first step for any new adult volunteer in a Pack, Troop or Exploring Crew, no matter what position you are volunteering to serve in. The Fast Start training is short and should be taken as soon as possible after you have accepted a leadership position.\n\nThe Fast Start program has been designed to provide an immediate comfort level for new leaders and enables them to say, "I can do this!", but it can be followed later by more comprehensive training.\n\nFor new leaders of Cub Scout and Boy Scout units, there are two options of how you can take Fast Start training: by viewing a video or by taking the on-line course. Some packs and troops may designate a trainer to support the new leader during this training period.\n\n!!!!Video\n\nThere is a video tape which can be checked out from either your unit or from the Scout Service Center. This tape can be viewed at your convenience. Ask for the "Cub Scout Leader Fast Start video, No. AV-01V022" and the "Cub Scout Fast Start Viewer Guide, No. AV-01G022" at any Scout Shop. \n\n\n!!!!Online\n\nFast Start training may be accomplished by taking an on-line course. The Fast Start training for leaders of Cub Scout units is at http://www.scouting.org/cubscouts/faststart/\n\nThe on-line version is broken up into several modules and does not have to be taken all at the same time. It takes about the same amount of time to work through all the on-line modules of the Fast Start training as it does to view the video version in its entirety. When you have successfully completed the on-line version, the Council is automatically notified of this, and your records are appropriately updated.\n\n!Adult Leader Basic Training\n\n__All leaders should take this class__, and any parent can take this class as well to be more effective in his or her volunteer role for the pack.\n\nAdult Leader Basic Training is comprised of the New Leader Essentials and Position Specific Training programs when taken together. A leader is considered "trained" when in addition to New Leader Essentials and the Position Specific Training, he or she has participated in Youth Protection Training. This level of training is required for all Cub Scout http://www.pacsky.org/training/recognition/knots.html.\n\nThe Adult Leader Basic Training program is an in-person class only. Complete information and online registration is available at the http://www.pacsky.org/training/basic/cub_basic.html.

Cub Scout Pack 83
As a Cub Scout, you should be able to recite and perform all these!\n\nCub Scout Promise\n\nI, (say your name), PROMISE to DO MY BEST,\nTo DO MY DUTY to GOD and MY COUNTRY,\nTo HELP OTHER PEOPLE,\nand To OBEY THE LAW OF THE PACK!\n\nLaw of the Pack\n\nThe Cub Scout follows Akela.\nThe Cub Scout helps the pack go.\nThe Pack helps the Cub Scout grow.\nThe Cub Scout gives goodwill.\n\nTiger Cub Scout Motto\n\nSEARCH, DISCOVER, SHARE\n\nCub Scout Motto\n\nDO YOUR BEST\n\nThe Cub Scout Grand Howl\n\nThis is typically done to close a Pack Meeting.\n\nWhen called to do so, the Cub Scouts form a circle with each Cub Scout's right arm extended with his hand on the shoulder of his neighbor to the right. When a circle has been formed, each Cub Scout squats down and makes the two fingered Cub Scout sign with both hands, and touches the fingers of both hands between his feet to the ground. Then lead the boys in a long howl. "AHHH...KAYYY...LA! WE'LL DO OUR BEST!" As they yell the last word "best" loud and clear, all the Cub Scouts jump to their feet, and raise their hands high above their heads, while still giving the Cub Scout sign.\n\nThe Cub Scout Sign ("Signs Up!")\n\nMake the sign with your right hand with the first two fingers extended,\n\nHold your right arm straight up (not just next to your ear).\n\nWhat Does It Mean? The two fingers stand for the two parts of the Cub Scout Promise - "TO HELP OTHER PEOPLE" and "TO OBEY." They look like a wolf's ears alert and ready to listen to Akela. Give the Cub Scout sign when you say the "Cub Scout Promise" and the "Law of the Pack."\n\nThe Cub Scout Handshake\n\nTo shake hands with another Cub Scout or Cub Scout leader in uniform:\n\n# Make the Cub Scout sign with your right hand,\n# Extend your hand out to the other person and shake hands so your two extended fingers are against the other person's palm.\nThe Cub Scout Salute\n\nUse the Cub Scout Salute when you are in your Cub Scout uniform and you say the Pledge of Allegiance, or when you meet another Cub Scout or Scout Leader in uniform.\n\nTo make the Cub Scout Salute:\n\n# Make the Cub Scout sign with your right hand,\n# Keep the two fingers next to each other and straight,\n# Touch the tips of the fingers to the visor of your cap. If you are not wearing a cap, then tough your fingers to your right eyebrow.\nThe salute is a way to show respect to your leaders and your country. When you salute a leader, you show him or her that you look up to them, when you salute the flag you show that you are proud of your country. Hold your salute until the Scout Leadersalutes and releases his salute. After the Scout Leader has released his salute, you can release your's too.\n\nThe Cub Scouts Flag Ceremony\n\nAt the beginning of most gatherings, Cub Scouts will perform the Official Cub Scouts Flag Ceremony. To do this, the Cub Scouts follow these steps:\n\n# The Denner and Assistant Denner comes to the center of the room. The Denner stands behind the US Flag stand; the Assistant Denner stands behind the Pack Flag stand.\n# The ceremony starts with the Denner asking everyone "Would you please stand for the presentation of our nation's and our Pack's flags. "\nEveryone stands. Once everyone is standing, the Denner then commands "Color Guard Advance! "\n# The two Cub Scouts carrying the US and Pack flags then come down the aisle. The US Flag is in front and the Pack flag is in back. The flag carriers go to where the Denner and Assistant Denner is standing (that's done because sometimes the flag carriers can't see the flag stand and sometimes they trip over it....) and then faces the audience.\n# The Denner then states "Would you please join me in the Pledge of Allegiance." He then faces the flag, and commands "SCOUT SALUTE". Once he salutes the flag, he pauses and then leads the Pledge of Allegiance .\n# Once the Pledge is completed, he lowers his hand and commands "TWO " (this tells the Scouts that they can lower their hands now. Don't worry, even the new Cub Scouts will see that the Denner's not saluting any more and will eventually lower their hands too.)\n# Then, the Assistant Denner states "Please take your seats. Cub Scouts and Scouters please remain standing and join me in the Cub Scout Promise. "\n# The Assistant Denner then faces the flag and commands "Scout Salute!" Once again, once everyone's ready, then he leads the Pack in the Cub Scout Promise. Again, when he is finished, then he lowers his hand and commands "TWO " which gives the instruction for everyone to lower than hands.\n# The Denner then states "Post the Colors " and both flag holders place the flag into their appropriate holders. The US flag goes in first, and then the Pack's flag. Once that is done, the ceremony is finished and all four Cub Scouts can join the rest of the Den at their seats.\n\n//Some prompting may be needed by you or another adult as some Cub Scouts experience stage fright after practicing for days and weeks for the big night. Comfort them before and afterwards that everything that they do is in practice for those times as an adult they will have to lead people. And coach them through the rough spots when it may seem that they've forgotten what to do next.//\n\n\nCopyright Pack 83 2006

Regardless of a boy's age, the Bobcat Badge the first step in a boy's progression after registering as a Cub Scout.\n\nThe Bobcat is not a scouting rank, it is a badge. Each boy must earn his Bobcat badge before he is eligible for the Wolf badge, Bear badge, or Webelos badge.\n\nAmong other requirements, the Bobcat must learn the the Cub Scout Handshake, the the Cub Scout Salute, and how to give the the Cub Scout Sign. Please see the Stuff To Know page to learn about these.\n\nTo earn the Bobcat badge, a scout must also complete 8 tracks:\n\n# Learn and say the Cub Scout Promise.\n# Say the Law of the Pack. Tell what it means.\n# Tell what "Webelos" means.\n# Show the Cub Scout Sign. Tell what it means.\n# Show the Cub Scout Handshake. Tell what it means.\n# Say the Cub Scout Motto.\n# Give the Cub Scout Salute. Tell what it means.\n# With your parent or guardian, complete the exercises in the parents guide, "How to Protect Your Children From Child Abuse."
\nThe Tiger Cub program is for first grade boys (or boys who will be 7 years of age during the Scouting year) and their adult partners.\n\nThere are five Tiger Cub achievement areas. The Tiger Cub, working with his adult partner, completes 15 requirements within these areas to earn the Tiger Cub Badge. These requirements consist of an exciting series of indoor and outdoor activities just right for a boy in the first grade.\n\nTo earn the Tiger badge, a scout must complete 15 achievements in 5 categories:\n\n# Making My Family Special\n# Where I Live\n# Keeping Myself Healthy and Safe\n# How I Tell It\n# Let's Go Outdoors\nHe must also learn the Tiger Cub Motto which is “Search, Discover, Share”.\n\nThe Tiger Cub Uniform\n\nTiger Cubs and den coordinators wear an orange Tiger Cubs BSA T-shirt with the Tiger Cubs emblem located on the front of the shirt, and the Tiger Cubs BSA cap. There are other accessories for Tiger Cubs including the Tiger Cub belt with buckle.\n\nAlthough highly recommended, it is optional for adult partners to wear the orange Tiger Cubs BSA T-shirt too.

Uniforms and components can be expensive. Tiger Cub uniforms are not needed after the boy moves on to Wolves, and Cub Scout uniforms are not needed after the Cub Scout has moved on to Boy Scouts. For this reason, Pack 83 maintains the Uniform Bank.\n\nIf you have any Cub Scout or Webelos uniforms or components (belts, hats, neckerchiefs and sliders, shirts, pants, etc.), please consider donating them to the Pack 83 Uniform Bank. Also, if you are about to buy a uniform for your Cub Scout, you might want to check the Uniform Bank to see if there's anything you can use. There is no requirement of financial hardship to take advantage of the Uniform Bank.\n\nIf you lose your hat, neckerchief or slide, or other uniform components and they do not have your name in them, we will put them into the Uniform Bank if they are found. Always check the Uniform Bank for your lost items.\n\nSoon we will have a live list of items available in the Uniform Bank which will be displayed below.

The Webelos I program is for fourth grade boys (or boys who will be 10 years of age during the Scouting year) .\n\nA boy may begin working on the Webelos badge as soon as he joins a Webelos den. This is the first step in his transition from the Webelos den to the Boy Scout troop.\n\nAs he completes the requirements found in the Webelos Scout Book, he will work on activity badges, attend meetings led by adults, and become familiar with the Boy Scout requirements—all leading to the Arrow of Light Award.\n\nWebelos Scouts don't do achievements and electives as Cub Scouts do; they work on 20 hobby and career subjects called activity badges. These scouts also work toward earning their Arrow of Light Award, the highest award in Cub Scouting.\n\nPhysical Skills Activity Badges:\n1. Aquanaut\n2. Athlete\n3. Fitness\n4. Welcome to the web site for the Cub Scouts Pack 83, located in Belmont, California.\nSince 1930, the Boy Scouts of America has helped younger boys through Cub Scouting. It is a year-round family program designed for boys who are in the first grade through fifth grade (or 7, 8, 9, and 10 years of age). Parents, leaders, and organizations work together to achieve the purposes of Cub Scouting.\nPack 83 is a very family-oriented pack, and emphasizes building confidence and great lifetime memories in the boys. We participate in a lot of activities throughout the year as can be seen in the Calendar of Events page.\n\nIf you are already a Cub Scout with Pack 83, you can find information from your Den Leader in your Den page for Tigers, Wolves, Bears, Webelos I, or Webelos II .\nIf you are interested in becoming a Cub Scout with Pack 83, please see the Join Pack 83 page.

It is a year-round family program designed for boys who are in the first grade through fifth grade (or 7, 8, 9, and 10 years of age). Parents, leaders, and organizations work together to achieve the purposes of Cub Scouting. Currently, Cub Scouting is the largest of the BSA's three membership divisions. (The others are http://www.scouting.org/factsheets/02-503.html and http://www.scouting.org/factsheets/02-388.html.)\n\nThe ten purposes of Cub Scouting are:\n* Character Development\n* Spiritual Growth\n* Good Citizenship\n* Sportsmanship and Fitness\n* Family Understanding\n* Respectful Relationships\n* Personal Achievement\n* Friendly Service\n* Fun and Adventure\n* Preparation for Boy Scouts\n\n@@font-size:12pt;display:block;Membership@@\n\nCub Scouting members join a Cub Scout pack and are assigned to a den, usually a neighborhood group of six to eight boys. Tiger Cubs (first-graders), Wolf Cub Scouts (second graders), Bear Cub Scouts (third graders), and Webelos Scouts (fourth and fifth graders) meet weekly.\n\nOnce a month, all of the dens and family members gather for a pack meeting under the direction of a Cubmaster and pack committee. The committee includes parents of boys in the pack and members of the chartered organization.\n\nThe Current Cub Scout membership in the United States is:\n|980,555|Cub Scouts|\n|786,833|Webelos Scouts|\n|562,958|Pack Leaders|\n|276,090|Tiger Cub Teams|\n|54,148|Packs|\n@@font-size:12pt;display:block;Volunteer Leadership@@\n\nThousands of volunteer leaders, both men and women, are involved in the Cub Scout program. They serve in a variety of positions, as everything from unit leaders to pack committee chairmen, committee members, den leaders, and chartered organization representatives.\n\nLike other phases of the Scouting program, a Cub Scout pack belongs to an organization with interests similar to those of the BSA. This organization, which might be a church, school, community organization, or group of interested citizens, is chartered by the BSA to use the Scouting program. This chartered organization provides a suitable meeting place, adult leadership, supervision, and opportunities for a healthy Scouting life for the boys under its care. Each organization appoints one of its members as a chartered organization representative. The organization, through the pack committee, is responsible for providing leadership, the meeting place, and support materials for pack activities.\n\n@@font-size:12pt;display:block;Who Pays For It?@@\n\nGroups responsible for supporting Cub Scouting are the boys and their parents, the pack, the chartered organization, and the community. The boy is encouraged to pay his own way by contributing dues each week. Packs also obtain income by working on approved money-earning projects. The community, including parents, supports Cub Scouting through the United Way, Friends of Scouting enrollment, bequests, and special contributions to the BSA local council. This financial support provides leadership training, outdoor programs, council service centers and other facilities, and professional service for units.\n\n@@font-size:12pt;display:block;Advancement Plan@@\n\nRecognition is important to young boys. The Cub Scout advancement plan provides fun for the boys, gives them a sense of personal achievement as they earn badges, and strengthens family understanding as adult family members work with boys on advancement projects.\n\nTiger Cub. The Tiger Cub program is for first grade (or age 7) boys and their adult partners. There are five Tiger Cub achievement areas. The Tiger Cub, working with his adult partner, completes 15 requirements within these areas to earn the Tiger Cub Badge. These requirements consist of an exciting series of indoor and outdoor activities just right for a boy in the first grade.\n\nBobcat. The Bobcat rank is for all boys who join Cub Scouting.\n\nWolf. The Wolf program is for boys who have completed first grade (or are age 8). To earn the Wolf badge, a boy must pass twelve achievements involving simple physical and mental skills.\n\nBear. The Bear rank is for boys who have completed second grade (or are age 9). There are 24 Bear achievements in four categories. The Cub Scout must complete 12 of these to earn the Bear badge. These requirements are somewhat more difficult and challenging than those for Wolf rank.\n\nWebelos I and Webelos II. The Webelos program is for boys who have completed third grade (or are age 10). A boy may begin working on the Webelos badge as soon as he joins a Webelos den. This is the first step in his transition from the Webelos den to the Boy Scout troop. As he completes the requirements found in the Webelos Scout Book, he will work on activity badges, attend meetings led by adults, and become familiar with the Boy Scout requirements—all leading to the Arrow of Light Award.\n\n@@font-size:12pt;display:block;Activities@@\n\nCub Scouting means "doing." Everything in Cub Scouting is designed to have the boys doing things. Activities are used to achieve the aims of Scouting—citizenship training, character development, and personal fitness.\n\nMany of the activities happen right in the den and pack. The most important are the weekly den meetings and the monthly pack meetings.\n\n@@font-size:12pt;display:block;Cub Scout Academics and Sports@@\n\nThe Cub Scout Academics and Sports program provides the opportunity for boys to learn new techniques, increase scholarship skills, develop sportsmanship, and have fun. Participation in the program allows boys to be recognized for physical fitness and talent-building activities.\n\n@@font-size:12pt;display:block;Camping@@\n\nAge-appropriate camping programs are packed with theme-oriented action that brings Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts, and Webelos Scouts into the world of imagination. Day camping comes to the boy in neighborhoods across the country; resident camping is at least a three-day experience in which Cub Scouts and Webelos Scouts camp within a developed theme of adventure and excitement. "Cub Scout Worlds" are used by many councils to carry the world of imagination into reality with actual theme structures of castles, forts, ships, etc. Cub Scout pack members enjoy camping in local council camps and other council-approved campsites. Camping programs combine fun and excitement with doing one's best, getting along with others, and developing an appreciation for ecology and the world of the outdoors.\n\n@@font-size:12pt;display:block;Publications@@\n\nVolunteers are informed of national news and events through Scouting magazine (circulation 900,000). Boys may subscribe to Boys' Life magazine (circulation 1.3 million). Both are published by the Boy Scouts of America. Also available are a number of Cub Scout and leader publications, including the Tiger Cub Handbook, Wolf Cub Scout Book, Bear Cub Scout Book, Webelos Scout Book, Cub Scout Leader Book , Cub Scout Program Helps, and Webelos Leader Guide.\n\n@@font-size:12pt;display:block;Cub Scouting Ideals@@\n\nApart from the fun and excitement of Cub Scout activities, the Cub Scout Stuff_To_Know.html, the Stuff_To_Know.html, the Stuff_To_Know.html, and the Stuff_To_Know.html, Stuff_To_Know.html, Stuff_To_Know.html, and Stuff_To_Know.html all teach good citizenship and contribute to a boy's sense of belonging.//Search, Discover, Share.//\n\n@@font-size:12pt;display:block;Cub Scout Colors@@\n\nThe Cub Scout colors are blue and gold. They have special meaning, which will help boys see beyond the fun of Cub Scouting to its ultimate goals.\n\nThe blue stands for truth and spirituality, steadfast loyalty, and the sky above. The gold stands for warm sunlight, good cheer, and happiness.\n\n\nCopyright Pack 83 2006
Q What is the Army truck and deuce that I see listed in the web site and Calendar of Events?\n\n\nA Pack 83 has access to a genuine Army troop transport truck, and is owned and operated by Pack 83's former Pack Leader, Jim Newton.\n\nThe truck is a 1971 Kaiser Jeep ~M35A2, and can carry 35 people. There are seat belts for all positions.\n\nThe "deuce and a half", as it is known (because it can carry two and a half tons of cargo) can be outfitted with a canvas cover or open-air, depending on weather and the event it is being used for.\n\nThe truck is covered by full insurance that exceeds the requirements of the Boy Scouts of America.\n\nAt least two adults are always present in the back of the deuce to watch over the boys.\n\nSome parents are a little nervous about allowing their Cub Scout to ride in the deuce, but they quickly realize that it is quite safe and makes for a lifetime memory for the boy.
